Steve Young
Born in Trois-Rivières (Quebec, Canada), Steve currently lives and works in L’Assomption in the suburbs of Montreal. After college and university studies, he devoted himself to graphic design. In 1996, he was commissioned by the Tokyo American Club to design the illustrations for the advertising campaign of the prestigious club founded in 1928. This one-month stay in Japan has become a kind of trigger that highlights the entire artistic aspect of the communications world with which he has been associated since the late 1980s. He received other illustration mandates and continued his design work while taking more time to paint with acrylic. Over time, and after working for several years in the graphic arts sphere, the appeal of the artistic career became more intense and in 2013, after experiencing a relationship with a first gallery, he decided to devote himself to it full-time.
Gait
Steve Young’s current production could be described as a hybrid since it includes an abstract pictorial research and the female character as a subject. A definition with high contrast in which can be translated a state of mind, a reflection, inner peace, strength, fragility and sensuality. The abstract background allows another level of interpretation where subject and abstraction merge in an indefinable place. The entirely abstract pieces reflect a constant study of space, colors and the movement of features that produce in a way multiple parcels of territory on this surface with the four borders that is the physical support, the canvas.
